Fog is gone! Me too!

Finally! For the first time this week, the fog has lifted! I have been working against a white sheet for the past day and a half. It's still very foggy, I can see blue skies, but they are more of a light grayish blue, but it's a start.

By the way, I put in my two weeks at Colliers on Monday. I'll be moving down to the ID to work at Amazon for awhile. So, if anyone downtown wants to meet me for lunch, or stop in and check out the view from the 54th floor observation deck, better do it soon :)

Lost Moments

Ok, so I know there's a lot of haters out there now, it being fashionable to not like Lost anymore and all. But if you have been paying attention to the show at all, I think it's worth it to check out this short clip on ABC's site.

http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/lostmoments/index

For those of you who aren't up-to-the-minute on Lost, and haven't been keeping up, the answer to all of your questions about this clip is "I have no idea. They haven't explained or even hinted at the place/thing/vehicle/conversation in this scene. And no, the two characters in it aren't even on the same island right now.

Totally original post.

This wholly original and not copied from anywhere post was entirely thought up by me. I have retroactively granted Kim and Eric permission to copy this post in the past.

1. Elaborate on your default icon. -- It's me at the Triple door checking out the giant fish tank in the bar. I've been there a few times, each one for a special event of some sort or another. Tina made it, and I have been too lazy to change it :)

2. What's your current relationship status? -- I am domestically partnered with my sweetums.

3. Ever have a near-death experience? -- Not really, no. I did have one of those dreams where you trip and fall and wake up just before you die, except I didn't wake up and I died, and found death to be pretty boring.

4. Name an obvious quality you have. -- I am awesome.

5. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now? -- Lady Marmalade. In fact, the only reason I'm doing this quiz (that I created) is because I thought it was cool that Kim and I had the same song stuck in our head. I downloaded the song to my phone (first time using sprint's music store, pretty rad btw) and forced Tina to listen to it the other night, hoping to get it out of my head. Incidentally, the correct phrase is Voulez-vous coucher avec moi (ce soir).

6. Name a celebrity you would marry. -- Paris Hilton. I know what you're thinking, but hear me out. A) She's an heiress. an heiress. B) until her untimely, tragic, and not-at-all suspicious tractor accident on the set of The Simple Life, I would have the satisfaction of handing out thousands of Publishers Clearing House-sized reality checks.

7.Who will cut and paste this meme first? -- What meme? I created this wholly and without influence.

8. Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity? -- Nope.

9. Do you wear a watch? What kind? -- Timex. It was the last christmas present my mom gave me.

10. Do you have anything pierced? -- There might be some metal in my jawbone I guess.

11. Do you have any tattoos? -- No.

12. Do you like pain? -- not really. I guess I like it by association, like if I pop a really big zit sometimes it hurts, but, well you know the rest.

13. Do you like to shop? -- Yes.

14. What was the last thing you paid for with cash? -- bus fare.

15. What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card? -- a Hard Drive.

16. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone? -- my boss

17. What is on your desktop background? -- At work right now, it's this. Until recently though, it was this:
at home, it's the default XP background.
18. What is the background on your cell phone? -- The default. Sprint has this new thing called Power Vision and On Demand, where it has what are basically widgets on the main screen, telling me time, headlines, the temperature, etc, along with some useful links. I like it so I keep it.

19. What was the last movie you watched? -- The Illusionist. Good, but I'd like to have seen more real magic instead of CG.

20. What was the last book you read? -- Read 'em and Reap, by Joe Navarro. Basically a book on poker tells using FBI techniques for determining lies in interrogation. Sadly a lot of casinos are creating rules preventing you from stripping your table mates naked, bagging their heads and piling them up in a neat little pyramid to determine their hole cards. Pretty soon I won't have any tactics left.

I should've gone up earlier, but when I saw this huge bright white cloud lurching across the south end on its way to Bellevue, I had to take a picture.

Hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving!

Quick pre-weekend update

Wow, it's been a long time since I've written anything of note. This is mostly just a quick update to help remedy that. Let's see... Last Saturday went to Ben and Kim's party, had a great time, Sunday went to see Reel Big Fish with Parker, which was a lot of fun, and a great thing for me since I am a huge RBF fan; more about that later. Tuesday was Sit'n'Gos at Jillians again, Wednesday was the extended bounty format with Parker (who made it to the final table, while I busted out fairly early on), Thursday watched Lost which was good but not great (Yay Nathan Fillon!), and looking forward to the weekend.

I'll get more detailed later on maybe.

Sucks.

I am very sad to see that of the 10 states that had same-sex/domestic partner issues on the ballot, all of them (except one, which is being counted, currently at 49/51 in favor of allowing domestic partnerships) have voted against rights for gay couples. The closest thing I have to hope is the fact that most of them came within a few percent of being voted in favor of equal rights, but that isn't saying much, since 9 of them were for outright banning same-sex marriage.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/ballot.measures/

Blah.

Stuff

Last night was a fine, quiet evening for me and mine, we did a few light chores and made chicken cacciatore, and watched Howl's Moving Castle. Finally, I can't believe it took me this long to watch that movie. It was pretty good, not my favorite miyazaki film though. Also we had 0 kids show up.

I have what I think started out as a sinus irritation now standing as a full blown sinus infection. I don't think I am sick per se, because I feel fine for the most part, and only my nose is stuffed up, but it's very annoying, and will be more so come tonight when Parker and I head out to play poker.

Tina got second place with her "wormageddon" cake, first place went to a very gross pile of chocolate pudding and peanuts in a bedpan (yes a real bedpan). I have a piece waiting for me when I get home tonight mwa ha ha!

Not much else to say; forgot my camera again today, although the scene was pretty familiar. The clouds were more interesting, but nothing we haven't seen before, and Issaquah wasn't covered in fog and clouds for the first time in like 3 weeks. I'll probably bring my camera in a few days again. I'd really like to get a 4GB memory stick for it so I can a)put my 2GB back in my PSP and start carrying around some music/videos again, and b)take videos for longer than 24 minutes. With a 4GB stick I could almost record a whole concert. Come on Sony, 8GB pro duos now!

NaNoWriMo officially starts today too. I'd planned on using my lunch break to start out, but my 'boss' was in today until about 1:30, so I had to nix that idea. Not a good start. On top of that, I never even figured out what I was going to write about, so it's really going to just ramble for a while (probably the whole 30 days heh) until I decide what I'm going to do. I'd love to write sci-fi, but I just don't know if I have the chops for it. I'm worried about inconsistincies and stupid little (ok big) plot holes that would probably come with creating a new sci fi world on the fly.

Quick EDIT: One thing that I do think would be really fun, would be to just do something totally crazy like "Bill was walking down the street and then the united states blew up and the earth started spinning really fast and time went really fast and a bunch of planes crashed at high speed, but everyone was ok because all the metal turned into marshmellows thanks to psychics from the dimensional rift caused by sped up time, So Bill ate a bunch of marshmallows and got diabetes." and just keep going like that for as lont as I can.

Also, Guitar Hero 2 looks really hard

Amy Sedaris!

No pictures today, it's more of the same, which I'm sure you guys are tired of by now. I went down to talk to the security guy again today, to see if he had heard anything, and he got all flustered, it was kind of weird. Whatevah.

Last night went with Tina to see Amy Sedaris at Neumo's. It was a gerat show, hosted by everybody's favorite androgyne, Warren Etheredge. Warren, if you are unfamiliar with his involvement, is/was the curator of the OneReel film festival that plays every year at bumbershoot. Warren also runs The Warren Report, a pretty cool site that lists upcoming sneak previews in the Seattle metro area. It's an annual fee of $15, which gets you unlimited access to any sneak previews that Warren sets up (and he usually sets up a lot of sneak previews). I've seen a ton of great movies this way, and if you live in the Seattle Metro area, you owe it to yourself to do it. It doesn't look like much, and it seems like there aren't many good movies on the page a lot of the time, but trust me, if you check the site regularly, you will see at least a dozen movies a year all for free.

Anyways.

Amy Sedaris came up, and I'd never seen her not all done up in one way or another, and she came across as very... normal looking. She was shorter than I'd expected, and younger looking. But she was every bit as witty and quick on her feet as I'd hoped. Warren was a perfect host, because he has annoying little traits, and he is kind of egocentric (whenever he comes in front of the crowd before a screening, he makes everyone shout out "Hello Warren!", and if they don't do it right, he makes them do it again), and he is straight, but sounds a little bit gay (I only knew he was straight because he's mentioned his wife before). He also hams it up a fair bit. Actually, now that I think about it he's a lot like Parker (Ba dum tsh, let's see if Parker reads these things ^_^). Anyways, Warren was a perfect target for Amy, and she used him to full effect the whole evening. It started out with them making an "eye burrito" for eliminating those nasty bags under one's eyes (stuff a pair of nylons with beans, reinforce, glue on eyes, and voila!), then sort of devolved into Warren leading Amy into "tips" from the book, and Amy cracking the whip on Warren in that wonderfully affectionate brand of insults she is famous for. After seeing Amy in action, I understand now that she is (thankfully) good at what she does, and her own blend of mockery and depracation (both self and other) seems to be mostly for show.

Amy also talked about her work on Strangers with Candy, some of the stuff she's done with her brother David, and she did piglet, which was hilarious! All in all it was a great interview, and it was followed up by some swedish band, but Tina and I didn't stick around for it. When we got home, Tina baked a cake to take to work today while I fell asleep on the couch watching Heroes. Gonna be watching Howl's Moving Castle tonight with my sweetie while we wait for the kids to come rolling up, then maybe possibly I'll go down to Jillians for a couple of tables. Anyone who is interested in Poker is always welcome. Parker and I will be going to the free tournament tomorrow as well, if anyone wants to join us.

Rassle-Frassin'

Well it looks like we're back to behind the glass pictures, for evenings at least. I just went down to the front desk to get a badge for the observation deck, and was told that no one is allowed on the observation deck at dusk. meaning I can't go out there once the sun starts setting. Meaning I get to take pictures from my office:

It's such a shame, because it's so beautiful right now, and I know that the windows are so heavily tinted and reflective (my hands sit in sunlight all day, and I never even get kind of warm, I don't know what they use) that I know that it's killing the coloring; reflections notwithstanding.

Oh well. I may call up the management company again to see specifically what the rules are, and whether I can get special permission to be on the deck at dusk like I did for taking the pictures in the first place, but earlier today the security guard said that he would "have to talk to his boss" about me keeping the badges for the whole morning (I usually pick it up on my way to work, and drop it off on my way to lunch). Sigh, just another day of getting hassled by the man.

NaNoWriMo and a cool pic for once.

Today is a pretty boring looking day, so I thought I'd take a pic and have a little fun with MS Photo Editor. It came out a little messy, but I only had 15 minutes in which to take the pic then edit it.

So, as you may have heard, National Novel Writing Month is fast approaching. This year will be my third, but only in spirit. I've never even come close to finishing 50,000 words. My first year I made it to the second chapter in a book about a guy who was trying to calculate the winning numbers of the lottery and who ends up discovering an equation of something far more important; my second year was about the formation of a team of superheroes with the big twist being that they become the supervillians. I made it all the way to two pages on that one. From my volumes of experience, I now understand that it is very difficult indeed to write a novel with a surprise twist, and not explicitly declare what the twist is before the end of the second page.

For me, the daunting parts are not having time and not writing drivel, which makes NaNoWriMo a great tool, because it very specifically states that drivel is exactly what you should be writing, so as to remove that heavy deterrent. The other one, time, well that's a different beast altogether. It takes me maybe 15 minutes to write one of these posts. Yesterday's post, including the lost rant (which apparently only Dan read, bless you Dan), ran 768 words, which is half of what I'd have to write every day in order to hit 50,000 words in a month. Yesterday's post is one page single spaced in Word. Although it would probably be easy for me to go on and double the size of the post if I were writing about my own boring ass life, Coming up with that many words for a fictional account wholly made up in my own head makes such a proposition tantalizing, but impractical.

Alternatively, I've been letting an idea simmer in the crock pot of my mind, and I may use this opportunity to write up some non-fiction. We'll see.
